MAIN INFORMATION

The original farm was owned by Bill Cockrum's family and subdivided. The portion where Pleasant Valley now sits was owned by Bill and Kate R.Cockrum--daughter of Sam Roach, Sheriff of the county for over 20 years. After returning from WWII, Bill farmed tobacco, oats, corn and garden vegetables and kept a variety of animals on the farm. After Bill and Kate's deaths, the farm passed to Kate's sister Nelle, and then to Alan Roach, Kate and Nelle's nephew. Then the farm passed to remaining heirs, Alan's children.
