Fowler Quilt Barn

Dorcas Moore Williams Pointer was born October 23, 1903 in the Jeremiah community in Overton County; she was the wife of John N. Pointer whom she married in 1922 and mother of two daughters and one son. Her later life was "centered" on the Algood Senior Center, and one of her greatest joys; quilting. Mrs. Pointer passed away in 1997.

Mrs. Pointer, Granny to her family, made a "Little Dutch Girl" quilt for each of her granddaughters and great grand daughters (six total). She may have selected the pattern because it says "little girl" or it was a favorite. She purchased the fabrics to give the "little girls" their bright look rather than make them from saved scraps of made dresses. No two blocks were the same.

The Fowler family moved to Cookeville from San Diego, CA in 1971, and bought the 30-acre farm from Randall and Judy Dial. Old timers referred to it as the PJ Raines farm.

Julie Styer, the artist with the Upper Cumberland Arts Alliance, resides in Putnam County with her family. Julie received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Youngstown State University. She currently has an art studio in her home where she enjoys working in different types of art media.
