Benjamin Hawkins, a member of the Continental Congress from North Carolina and later (1789-1795) a United States Senator from North Carolina, signed the Deed of Cession which conveyed the Southwest Territory to the Federal Government. The 'Southwest Territory' is now the State of Tennessee. Rogersville is now the county seat of Hawkins county, named after the Senator.
Rogersville has a long and rich history. Main Street's Hale Springs Inn and Court House tell stories of a life past and Pressman's Home draws visitors who seek a historic, and sometimes ghostly, adventure.
