This log cabin has been in continuous use by the Moore/Rogers family since it was first constructed in the early to mid 1800s. The log cabin structure is concealed in the interior, however, a doorway frame in the kitchen reveals the original logs. The Williams family has deep roots in the area, having founded Mooresburg and descendants owned the Mooresburg Springs Hotel, a popular Victorian-era mineral springs resort. From the History of Mooresburg, Rogersville and The Home Place by Priscilla Rogers, Innkeeper Major Hugh G. Moore, my great-great-great grandfather, settled this small community in 1769. His granddaughter, "Mammy" Moore Williams (my great-grandmother, pictured), raised her children in this house, and in the late 1800's, opened her home to "drummers," or traveling salesmen, to supplement the family income. Another of my ancestors, Joseph Rogers, founded nearby Rogersville, the second-oldest town in Tennessee. He opened a tavern there in the late 1700s and hosted such dignitaries as Andrew Jackson.
