The J. Merle Crawley Agriculture Service Center Building was once the Administrative Building for Bonny Oaks School and Orphanage. The Reformatory received its first students during 1898.During the time that the children lived there, the school went through many changes and become an environment providing a loving and compassionate home for numerous children. The school included a very progressive farm program where the students learned to work on the farm. The farm produced almost half of the necessary food, meat, milk, and vegetables that were consumed by the children. The school is now closed but its rich history lives on. The Service Center lives Houses many different things.
The quilt square is patterned after a James Merle Crawley Family Quilt. The building was named after James Merle Crawley who was an educator, coach, and agriculturist.

Panther Creek State Park, covering approximately 1,435 acres, is located on the shores of Cherokee Reservoir, an impoundment of the Holston River. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located about 45 miles south.
Legend has it that both Panther Creek and Panther Springs, located about 1 1/2 miles southeast of the park, received their names from the claim of a Colonel Bradley of Virginia who, while exploring the area, shot a panther that fell into the spring.
